Dubuque Area Writers Guild to Publish Annual Anthology

DUBUQUE, IA. – In conjunction with the 40th annual DubuqueFest Fine Arts Festival (May 19-21, 2017), the Dubuque Area Writers Guild is excited to announce that it will be publishing the 39th edition of its Gallery book project. This year’s publication, “Movement” will be an open-genre anthology showcasing the art and writing of Dubuquers and those with ties to the Dubuque area. The concept “movement”, can focus on a variety of components, such as change or having changed, either physical or emotional. Or the movement of location, trends or ideas. Movement can be the bustle of people or the passage of time. Movement can also be the progressive development of a poem or story. Submissions about “movement” as a concept are encouraged, but works of any theme will be considered.

Writers of all ages may submit fiction, non-fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry and memoir pieces. Prose entries should not exceed 1200 words. Poems should not exceed 30 lines. The project also invites submissions of black and white artwork (drawings, photography, digital art, etc.). Manuscripts should be double-spaced and the author’s name, address, e-mail address and telephone number must appear on each submitted page. Writers should also include a short biographical paragraph about themselves along with their submission (not to exceed 50 words maximum).

Electronic submissions are strongly preferred, and should be sent to dubuqueareawritersguild@gmail.com as attached .jpg or Word files. Please include the words “2017 Gallery submission” in the subject line of the email. If necessary, materials may also be mailed to Dubuque Area Writers Guild, PO Box 1166, Dubuque, IA 52004. The deadline for submissions to the anthology is April 1st, 2017.

Writers selected for publication may be invited to read at a reception to celebrate the launch of the anthology, which will be held Friday, May 19th during DubuqueFest at the Dubuque Museum of Art. The public is invited to attend the reception/reading and encouraged to purchase copies of The Gallery.
